Reducing Artifacts in Volume Rendering by Higher Order Integration
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper we show that approximation errors predominate the artifacts that can be seen. A new integration scheme for solving the volume rendering equation is presented that leads to artifact free images and accurate resolutions down to voxel size. We propose a method for acquiring additional sample points needed for higher order integration very efficiently in order to allow the competing goals speed an accuracy to be traded off in a reasonable way. The computational overhead of this method is a factor of 2 to the conventional algorithm.

Object-order Rendering of Discrete Objects
This dissertation gives accurate and efficient methods for the object-order rendering of discrete objects. Discrete objects are typically represented with a volume raster and rendered with a volume rendering algorithm. However, current object-order volume rendering algorithms suffer from several problems. First, they require that the volume raster be traversed in a strict visibility order, but ...
متن کاملArtifact reduction techniques in Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) imaging modality
Introduction: Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) was introduced and became more common based on its low cost, fast image procedure rate and low radiation dose compared to CT. This imaging modality improved diagnostic and treatment-planning procedures by providing three-dimensional information with greatly reduced level of radiation dose compared to 2D dental imaging modalitie...
متن کاملInteractive Lighting Models and Pre-Integration for Volume Rendering on PC Graphics Accelerators
Shading and classification are among the most powerful and important techniques used in volume rendering. Unfortunately, for hardware accelerated volume rendering based on OpenGL, direct classification was previously only supported on SGI platforms and shading could only be approximated inaccurately, resulting in artifacts mostly visible in darkening. In this paper, we present a novel approach ...
متن کاملHigh-Quality Unstructured Volume Rendering
For the visualization of volume data the application of transfer functions is used widely. In this area the preintegration technique allows high quality visualizations and the application of arbitrary transfer functions. For regular grids, this approach leads to a two-dimensional pre-integration table which easily fits into texture memory. In contrast to this, unstructured meshes require a thre...
متن کاملTwo methods for wavelet-based volume rendering
This paper describes two methods for wavelet domain rendering of volume data sets, which base on entire different paradigms for the approximation of the underlying volume rendering equation. The first approach comprises a ray-tracing algorithm for cardinal B-spline wavelet representations of both color and opacity values and carries out high quality images. We especially propose elaborated inte...
